Stacy Peralta

Stacy Peralta returns to Sundance with Made in America, an insightful and moving documentary inspired by first hand witness of the devastating gang violence that has plagued Southern Los Angeles for decades. Peralta made a name for himself in the ‘70s as a pioneer of professional skateboarding and found a new calling in the late ‘90s when he branched into directing and producing. His award winning documentaries Dogtown and Z-Boys (which was nominated for the Grand Jury Prize and won the Audience and Directing Awards at the 2001 Sundance Festival) and Riding Giants are examinations of the origins and evolution of skateboarding and surf culture. He also wrote Lords of Dogtown, a fictionalized retelling of the members of the Zephyr professional skateboarding team. In Made in America Peralta revisits the subculture of LA, but this time lends his considerable skill at progression study to a topic with a bit more social imperative.
